Swann welcomes “better way” for post primary education in Ballymena
North Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA and Chair of the Employment and Learning Committee at Stormont Robin Swann has welcomed the paper “A better way” on the future of post-primary education in the Ballymena area. “Too often schools set about responding to education proposals from their own viewpoint, which in many ways is understandable. In a brave and visionary approach Governors at Ballee Community High School have sought to define the future of the controlled sector in the context of meeting the needs of all children. Their proposal is in line with the expressed wishes of existing schools and parents yet at the same time takes the benefits of working collaboratively to a new level. I am especially pleased to see that they have addressed a flaw in the initial process by identifying the role of the Northern Regional College in providing education to many of our children. We cannot afford … Continue reading

Swann voices concern over budget cuts in FE colleges
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assembly and Chairman of the Stormont Committee for Employment and Learning, has called on Stormont Executive to “rethink its disastrous decision to cut the funding to the Province’s much-needed further education colleges”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, issued his call after a debate on the issue that funding for the traditional Tech’s FE sector as it is still affectionately known would be slashed by almost £30 million to £172 million.
