Act now to save forest walks, urges Swann
Mr Robin Swann, the Ulster Unionist Party Assembly member for North Antrim and Chairperson of the Stormont Employment and Learning Committee, has warned of the “severe financial losses which will occur if the Sinn Fein Farming Minister does not implement an urgent regeneration programme to the Glenariff Forest Park walks”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said; “This urgency plan is required to be implemented as soon as possible and must not become empty rhetoric as the current situation is having an adverse effect on tourism and locals who use the forest for recreation purposes. “To combat this dire situation, I asked the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to detail firstly, why the walks in Glenariff Forest Park are due to close; and secondly, for how long will they be closed. “In her response to me, the Minister said the walks in Glenariff … Continue reading

Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, was speaking after a Ministerial statement on the severe weather and its impact on the farming community. Mr Swann said: “Our North Antrim constituency was one of the main areas of Northern Ireland which suffered the most as a result of these snowstorms. “So it is absolutely crucial that North Antrim farmers who have lost stock in the recent bad weather contact the Department of Agriculture before 15 May so that their LFACA claim … Continue reading
