Swann praises boost for construction industry

Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, has said the Construction Contracts Exclusion Order 2012 going through the Assembly “is a tremendous boost and will help protect sub contractors and suppliers in the hard-pressed construction industry”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said: “This addition to the Construction Contracts 2011 will help protect small businesses whether they are sub contractors or suppliers that are employed through Governmental contracts. “All too often when large contractors go bankrupt the people further down the food chain also reap the hardship as they lose out. “The amendment to the Act will go some way in protecting suppliers and sub contractors from falling victim to the knock-on effects of large companies going out of business. “The construction industry is one of the largest industries in … Continue reading

Use them or lose them, Swann warns over local libraries

Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, has called on constituents “to make more use of our local libraries, otherwise we will lose them”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, made his appeal after receiving a briefing from the Assembly’s Research and Information Service, which showed that Northern Ireland had fewer libraries per head of population than any other area of the UK. Mr Swann has been especially active in the specific campaign to retain Kells and Connor Library and has extended his campaign to protect many libraries under threat throughout North Antrim. Swann urges constituents to ‘guard your mental health’

Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Agriculture and Culture Committees, has said “it is vitally important that in today’s high-pressure society that people look after their mental health”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, was speaking after taking part in the ‘Don’t Lose Your Marbles’ event at the Assembly, which marked the launch of the Assembly’s Charity of the Year, Action Mental Health. Swann blasts DSD over charities ‘debacle’

Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has strongly criticised the Department of Social Development over “the latest charities debacle, which could have been avoided by using political maturity and plain common sense”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said the necessity of new Charities Bill could have been avoided. His criticism of the Department of Social Development came after it was forced into introducing a new piece of legislation to put right the oversights contained within a Bill introduced only four years ago.
