Swann welcomes roads boost for Moyle
Mr Robin Swann, the Ulster Unionist Party Assembly member for North Antrim and Chairperson of the Stormont Employment and Learning Committee, has “warmly welcomed” the £2.5 million boost for roads in the Moyle region. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said the roads boost “would be a tremendous benefit to attract tourism to the locality”. Mr Swann’s party colleague, Transport Minister Danny Kennedy, also commended Roads Service and its contractors for the successful completion of road schemes in 2012/2013 which accounted for £2.5million investment in the roads infrastructure in the Moyle area. Speaking ahead of this evening’s meeting between Roads Service and Moyle District Council, Minister Kennedy said: “In the last financial year, my Department invested over £100million in structural maintenance, improving many miles of the road infrastructure across Northern Ireland. “In particular in the Moyle District, despite ever increasing demands on budgets, Roads … Continue reading
Swann urges secure future for Corrymeela centre
North Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA and Party Chief Whip Robin Swann has praised the work of the Corrymeela Centre in Ballycastle and called for assurances that it and other longstanding facilities “do not lose out due to the emphasis being placed on the Maze Long Kesh Peace and Reconciliation Centre”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman, said: “We all know the tremendous impact that the Corrymeela Centre has had in building peace and reconciliation over many years. “When the decision to site the conflict transformation centre at the Maze was taken, there was some concern about how such a facility would support those many organisations already providing a valuable service. “Further news that the Maze facility will run at a significant loss again raises concerns about the knock on effects. “I have sought clarity from First and deputy First Ministers’ Office and have been advised that the … Continue reading
Swann praises funding boost for Moyle
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has praised as “truly magnificent”, the announcement that Moyle had been successful in achieving a cash boost from the Dereliction Funding, emphasising that “it will breathe new life into the region”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for this prestigious district of our constituency. “It is a terrific boost for the town of Ballycastle and for the surrounding villages of Moyle involved. It will breathe new life into them through the knock-on effect of upgrading derelict buildings. “Following on from the success of the Brighter Bushmills scheme, it is evident that the artwork has dramatically improved the appearance of the village and makes it more attractive. “This attraction encourages visitors to stop and shop, which means added value to … Continue reading
Visit North Antrim, Swann urges Southern tourists
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Assembly member and UUP Chief Whip, has challenged both the Dublin Dail and the Stormont Executive to ensure that part of any campaigns urging Ulster people and people from the Republic to holiday in Northern Ireland should be spent encouraging those people to come to North Antrim. However, Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Association Chairman, also called on the Executive to put greater emphasis on attracting tourists from Great Britain to come to the constituency. Mr Swann added: “I welcome any pro-active measures both the Stormont Executive and the Northern Ireland Tourism Board are pursuing as a means to increase local tourists and visitors from the Republic of Ireland. “As North Antrim is home to the world-famous Giant’s Causeway and the tremendous shopping towns of Ballymena, Ballymoney and Ballycastle, I certainly urge the Executive to guarantee that our constituency … Continue reading
