Swann issues appeal on local libraries
Mr Robin Swann,the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and Chairman of the Stormont Emoloyment and Learning Committee and a recognised campaigner for local libraries, has received personal assurances from the Culture Minister, that Libraries NI are not making any changes to the library membership or registration process, despite recent unfounded stories in the local press. Mr Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said: “However, if local people still want a library in their village, and I am referring specifically to the villages of Kells and Connor and Broughshane, then they must use them. “The review that is under way is to update a members’ record in advance of the introduction of a new computer system. Swann calls for North Antrim Orange centre
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, has called on the Orange Order to consider establishing a permanent display in one of the museums in North Antrim, or within one of the many Orange Halls, Assemblyman Swann, a Past Master in both the Orange Order and Royal Black Institution, issued his call as he welcomed the Order receiving a grant of almost £4 million from the European Union’s PEACE III Programme to develop two interpretative centres in Belfast and Co Armagh. In a joint project to promote shared space and greater levels of reconciliation through education, the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland and the County Armagh Grand Orange Lodge have unveiled innovative plans to expand the Institution’s headquarters at Schomberg House and Sloan’s House, Loughgall. Swann in call to boost local boxing
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has called for even more sports funding to be diverted to develop local boxing, not just in the constituency, but right across Northern Ireland. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, issued his appeal after welcoming the decision by the DCAL Stormont Committee to visit the Braid Amateur Boxing Club and the All Saints Boxing Club in Ballymena, as part of its forward work programme. Swann praises clampdown on illegal fishing
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Committees for Agriculture and Culture, has welcomed a statement by the DCAL Minister praising efforts by the Police and DCAL Inland Fisheries Officers which resulted in the recent seizure of a large amount of equipment and the dismantling of a significant illegal fishing operation on Lough Neagh. Swann slams BBC over ‘bias’
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has strongly criticised the BBC, accusing the Corporation of “inadequacies in portraying the Unionist and Loyalist perspective”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, made his criticism after meeting with BBC officials at a recent meeting of the Culture Committee. Mr Swann said: “I wanted to talk about balance with the BBC. I had already met with other individuals twice to criticise the BBC about inadequacies in portraying the unionist and loyalist perspective. “The BBC gives half an hour a week to the Irish language.
