Swann urges fairer creative industries spend

Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, has called on the Stormont departments to “play fair” when it comes to funding the creative industries in Council areas across North and East Antrim. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and UUP Culture Spokesman, issued his challenge after recent figures revealed that North Antrim’s three councils – Ballymena, Ballymoney and Moyle – along with neighbouring East Antrim’s Carrickfergus Council receive some of the lowest creative industries investment in Northern Ireland. Assemblyman Swann said: “Continually we hear ministers from the Office of First and deputy First Minister, Trade and Investment, and Culture, Arts and Leisure saying creative industries will be the industry which could pull Northern Ireland out of the current economic difficulties it is in. “Unfortunately, their investment in council areas does not match their words. … Continue reading
