Five young puppies that are being specially trained before being given to children who have autism accompanied the group. “I warmly congratulate Assistance Dogs NI for the great work it does in training dogs for people with disabilities so that they can lead a more independent life. “These young puppies are to be given to children who have autism so as to help break down the social isolation those children can face. “Parents with autistic children know only too well the difficulties … Continue reading
Swann welcomes Ballymena parking space boost
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has “warmly welcomed the ingenious decision” of Executive Minister Danny Kennedy to boost the number of car parking spaces in Ballymena as “a victory for common sense”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, issued his praise as his UUP colleague Danny Kennedy unveiled extra Saturday Christmas parking in Ballymena. Regional Development Minister Kennedy announced that Roads Service will be providing additional parking capacity in Ballymena on the four Saturdays in December preceding Christmas. Minister Kennedy said: “Roads Service has, over the past number of years, supplemented the parking in Ballymena in the run-up to Christmas. “Even with some 2,000 parking spaces operated by Roads Service and a number of other privately operated car parks, the additional parking on the four Saturdays before Christmas provides … Continue reading

Swann appeals to colleges to aid construction revival
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has appealed to schools and colleges to help with the revival of the Province’s construction industry by ensuring that such skills are taught in the classroom. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, was responding to the latest “disastrous news” that a further 54 redundancies have been confirmed at Pattons. Mr Swann noted: “While this is another terrible body blow to the remaining workforce, their loved ones, and the constituency’s economy in North Antrim, it is particularly bitter economic medicine to swallow as Christmas is only a matter of weeks away. “Such is the seriousness of the situation, that combating this must not be left to one Stormont department on its own – the entire Executive must pull together to assist not just the Pattons … Continue reading

Assemblyman Swann is a Past President of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster and a past Chairman of the influential Rural Youth Europe organisation, as well as Chairman of the North Antrim UUP and Party Chief Whip. The North Antrim MLA spoke out following the leaked report of an independent review, which was entitled ‘Project Rainbow’ and which was instigated due to three of the unit’s five investigators making a series of “whistle-blowing allegations” in 2010. Mr Swann said: “When 60% of the staff involved in one department find it necessary to use whistle-blowing protocols to report concerns, it shows as the report states, ‘a severely fractured working relationship … Continue reading
