Swann warns of continued firework menace
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA and Constituency Chairman, has called on the community to help stamp out the continued threat to livestock from “young, irresponsible thugs throwing fireworks at farm animals”. Mr Swann, who is also a member of the Stormont Committees on Agriculture and Culture, added: “The entire community, both urban and rural, needs to remain on alert because of the threat from fireworks in the countryside. “With Hallowe’en approaching, there still unfortunately remains the threat from large volumes of often illegal fireworks in the countryside. “These illegal fireworks, and especially the loud banger types, still pose a considerable threat to farm livestock. “In my capacity as Constituency MLA and UUP Association Chairman, I have welcomed the past seizure by the police in Ballymena of an amount of illegal fireworks which could have caused injury not just to others but also to the users. “I … Continue reading

Swann steps up campaign to save Bushmills Post Office
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Committees for Agriculture and Culture, has called on the entire constituency to rally behind saving Bushmills Post Office from closure. Mr Swann is North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip. He added: “We need to understand that this is not just about the future of a single village Post Office. “There is the real danger that there will be a very serious knock-on effect for rural communities across the constituency if we start losing battles to save individual Post Offices. “The authorities will not want to antagonise the constituency by closing all threatened Post Offices at once. The danger is that the authorities will introduce a campaign of quiet, individual closures. “Before we as a community know what is happening, we will have lost an entire network of rural Post Offices. Such Post Offices … Continue reading

Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has called on the Executive’s Farming Minister to implement an urgent inquiry into her Department’s “totally inadequate response to the recent snap flooding which caused the DARD office to be closed”. Assemblyman Swann is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, and is a Past President of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster and a Past Chairman of the influential Rural Youth Europe organisation. Assemblyman Swann said: “I was shocked to learn that during the recent snap floods, the DARD headquarters was itself closed due to flooding and Agriculture Minister and her senior staff had to be relocated to another headquarters. “While DARD was trying to maintain basic services, surely the Minister should have had a contingency plan in place? There have been more than enough severe weather situations … Continue reading
