Swann slams Ministerial ‘snubs’
Mr Robin Swann, the Ulster Unionist Party Assembly member for North Antrim and Chairman of the Stormont Employment and Learning Committee, has branded the apparent inability of the Executive to provide ministers to support important motions in the chamber as “a blatant snub to democracy”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, made his remarks after lodging an official complaint with the Assembly Speaker. In a direct appeal to the Speaker, Mr Swann said: “I ask you, on behalf of the House, to write to the Executive to ask them to show the House and its Members the due dignity that they are to be afforded when they table motions. “We, in the Ulster Unionist Party, have tabled a motion for the repeal of the exception for teachers in the Fair Employment and Treatment (Northern Ireland) Order 1998. “We have been informed that none … Continue reading
Visit North Antrim, Swann urges Southern tourists
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Assembly member and UUP Chief Whip, has challenged both the Dublin Dail and the Stormont Executive to ensure that part of any campaigns urging Ulster people and people from the Republic to holiday in Northern Ireland should be spent encouraging those people to come to North Antrim. However, Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Association Chairman, also called on the Executive to put greater emphasis on attracting tourists from Great Britain to come to the constituency. Mr Swann added: “I welcome any pro-active measures both the Stormont Executive and the Northern Ireland Tourism Board are pursuing as a means to increase local tourists and visitors from the Republic of Ireland. “As North Antrim is home to the world-famous Giant’s Causeway and the tremendous shopping towns of Ballymena, Ballymoney and Ballycastle, I certainly urge the Executive to guarantee that our constituency … Continue reading

Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, made his remarks as he welcomed the charity group Assistance Dogs Northern Ireland to Parliament Buildings. Five young puppies that are being specially trained before being given to children who have autism accompanied the group. “I warmly congratulate Assistance Dogs NI for the great work it does in training dogs for people with disabilities so that they can lead a more independent life. “These young puppies are to be given to children who have autism so as to help break down the social isolation those children can face. “Parents with autistic children know only too well the difficulties … Continue reading
