Swann welcomes Runkerry decision
ROBIN SWANN, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assembly member, has “warmly welcomed” the recent decision by the High Court to grant permission for a golf resort at Runkerry on the North Antrim coast as “a tremendous decision for economic common sense and a life-saving boost for the region’s tourist trade”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said the High Court decision would now “fire the starting gun on a much-needed development which could bring unprecedented financial gain for the specific Bushmills locality and the wider North Antrim constituency”. Mr Swann added: “The High Court decision is fantastic news for tourism in Northern Ireland and it is especially outstanding news for our local economy in North Antrim. “While we realise the delay since planning permission was first granted over a year ago for the Bushmills Dunes Golf Resort and Spa has been unfortunate, … Continue reading

Visit North Antrim, Swann urges Southern tourists
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Assembly member and UUP Chief Whip, has challenged both the Dublin Dail and the Stormont Executive to ensure that part of any campaigns urging Ulster people and people from the Republic to holiday in Northern Ireland should be spent encouraging those people to come to North Antrim. However, Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Association Chairman, also called on the Executive to put greater emphasis on attracting tourists from Great Britain to come to the constituency. Mr Swann added: “I welcome any pro-active measures both the Stormont Executive and the Northern Ireland Tourism Board are pursuing as a means to increase local tourists and visitors from the Republic of Ireland. “As North Antrim is home to the world-famous Giant’s Causeway and the tremendous shopping towns of Ballymena, Ballymoney and Ballycastle, I certainly urge the Executive to guarantee that our constituency … Continue reading
Swann challenges Dail to send more tourists to North Antrim
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has challenged the Republic’s government to encourage more tourists visiting the South to come to the constituency. Assemblyman Swann, who is North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, threw down the gauntlet to the Dail following the revelation that overseas visitors to Northern Ireland had fallen despite the high levels of investment in the Northern Ireland 2012 ‘Our Time, Our Place’ campaign. Mr Swann said: “The recent confirmation from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment that there has been a 12% year on year drop in the number of overseas visitors to Northern Ireland is extremely disappointing. “Since the figures for the first half of the year were released in August, we have been informed that overseas visitors were down compared with last year, but I was told that … Continue reading

Swann welcomes SDLP climbdown on National Park
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees, has welcomed the “clear climbdown” by the SDLP Environment Minister over a national park proposal as “a victory for common sense politics”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, was speaking as SDLP Environment Minister Alex Attwood indicated he was preparing to drop the introduction of National Parks in Northern Ireland. “This move is most welcome for promoting the natural beauty of our North Antrim coast. Why would an SDLP Minister waste valuable taxpayers’ cash on a ‘white elephant’ national park proposal when we have the Giant’s Causeway, the unofficial Eighth Wonder of the World on our constituency doorstep? “Recent correspondence from Minister Attwood’s office giving an update on the progress of enabling legislation for National Parks suggests that the Minister has shifted his position … Continue reading

Swann hails new Causeway Centre boost
Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assembly member, has “warmly welcomed the official opening of the new visitors’ centre at the Giant’s Causeway, hailing it as “a massive asset which will boost tourism for generations to come”. Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip as well as the Ulster Unionist Party’s Culture, Arts and Leisure spokesman, was speaking at the formal opening of the Visitors’ Centre. Mr Swann said: “I have long regarded the Causeway Coast as the jewel in the Crown of Northern Ireland’s tourism industry and the Giant’s Causeway itself, drawing thousands of visitors annually, is the centre-piece. “This new Visitors’ Centre will be a tremendous asset both to the Causeway itself and to the tourist industry on the north coast. It will complement the many other fine attractions which are located within a short drive from the Causeway … Continue reading
